Eide kommune (municipality)

Eide kommune (municipality), nestled between impressive mountains and the great open sea, is home to a population of approximately 3500 inhabitants. Quarries and mines account for much of this municipality’s economy. The stone industry has its roots in the rebuilding of Ålesund after the great fire of 1904.

In addition, development and construction are growing industries in Eide kommune. Workshops and woodworking are also important here, as well as commerce, agriculture and fisheries. Eide kommune encompasses an exciting landscape, including the Hustadvika archipelago. Located here is Kvitholmen Lighthouse station,
established in 1841, which was placed here to aid navigation through these treacherous waters which have claimed many ships. Hustadvika is a must for wreck divers and landcrabs alike. The Atlantic Ocean Road, Atlanterhavsvegen, was
completed in 1989 and later voted Construction of the Century in 2005 by the Norwegian public. Whether in the calm of the blazing sun or during a dramatic storm, the Atlantic Ocean Road provides for a unique experience. We invite you to take a trip on one of our many trails, taste some local farm produce or kick up your heals at one of our festivals Eide is waiting for you.
